Title: lightroom 2.0 release
Post by: eatstickyrice on July 27, 2008, 10:14:13 am
Hi, I've been doing a ligthroom test with the 30 day free trial, and have decided I'd like to purchase a license. However, I hate the idea of purchasing something and then the next version coming out a few weeks later. Does anyone have any idea when the 2.0 release is due out? I'm guessing photokina, but not sure.

Rick

Anybody who says can't know....anybody who knows can't say (NDA's don't ya know). So, until Adobe makes the announcement, it's pure speculation (which isn't really useful).

But since the beta version is due to expire at the end of August, it figures.....

The fact that Scott Kelby is advertising his LR2 book and Michael and Jeff have the LR2 tutorial "in the can", I think the current Beta is the pre-release version.

Scott Kelby publishes a book every other week, so don't get too excited. I'm sure we can look forward to "Turn On Your Computer Like The Pros" any day now.

lol indeed. He's insanely prolific with books, podcasts, seminars, his kelbytraining site; I don't understand how he gets any shooting done.

My personal gut feel for when we will see the release of 2.0 is sooner rather than later.

Michael and Jeff have already intimated that they are running 2.0, which one would assume is to cover final testing etc before release.

I would have thought it was a question of weeks now, not months.

perhaps his next book will be how to get the most out of forums.

It probably is close at hand. All the Adobe sanctioned authors do seem to have their books at the publishers.  Next Adobe releases v2 and we figure out if the new features are worth the update price.

Where can I get that book?  Here I thought all along I was doing it right!  Ah, never mind, I'll just use my Mac exclusively... never have to turn them off anyway...

Mr. Kelby's "Worldwide Photo Walk" is on "You guessed it - August 23rd"......what is the significance of that date?

Absolutely no relevance to Lightroom 2.0 (which you will soon learn).

However, as an extra bonus to ye faithful LL forum members, "somebody who knows" often drops useful hints, for which the multitudes are, of course, grateful.

I'm always curious when it says 1:04 AM 7/29 and its only 9:17 PM EDT 7/28 here.  Is it me---or this site (and so I'm not sure now WHICH morning LOL--figuring that 'morning' may be the relevant word here)?

Enough of the Kelby bashing. Sure, his books are aimed at neophytes and intermediates, but even the Old Salty Dogs will gain a least some useful info. Or is it his teaching style that's rubbing most the wrong way...

My take: we're all envious the he's making 7 figures (a safe assumption) based on strikingly simple ideas--so simple in fact that nearly every "pro" has asked themselves "Why didn't I think of that" after reading one of his books.

How delightful! Lr 2 is another beauty. I haven't been messing much with the beta, for fear of transition issues, so I am happy with the timely delivery. I was beginning to have serious beta-tester envy.

On the subject of bashing particular people around here - you would have thought that the members of this forum would have something better to do with their time.

I dled all of the LR series as of last night.  I watched some last night and am now watching the second video on the develop module (right side).  I have the first LR series and the Camera to Print and I have to say that I feel this series'  visual appearance is even better (thanks Chris).  I just checked one of the videos on the LR1 series and the lighting is better on 2, the camera viewpoint is better (IMO), so kudos for that.

The ones I've watched thus far have been well done--and, as always, entertaining too  *smile*.  Though I'm a big user of LR1, I hadn't really spent enough time in LR2 beta so appreciate the indepth use of the filter area.  Well done.  Actually, between Michael and Jeff, they are doing a great job of bringing out what needs to be known, how to use it (adding the keystrokes on the screen is great) and making sure even the first time users of Lightroom are going to 'get it'.

Great jobs guys.  Back to the Develop module.  Just had to add my 2 cents about the improvements and the care each is taking to make sure that some points are emphasized, as needed.
