"The only fly in the ointment has been that this paper has difficulty printing from rolls on the HP Z3100, because that printer doesn't have a vacuum system and the paper is very curl resistant"
-M reichman
how big of a problem is this? is it just an annoyance, or does it actually render the printing impossible?
TIA

Some head strikes, but just decurle the paper before you put it in.
-
how are you decurling this paper? I've tried everything I can think of, and nothing will do it without introducing some kind of kink, even if subtle. It also will not flatten out over time.
Love this paper, but off a roll it's become a nightmare to work with. Sheets don't come large enough.

Get a cardboard tube (large one like 8" wide), unroll the paper, cover it with plastic or tissue to protect the surface of the paper and gently d roll it over itself. It helps to keep the paper in a humid environment to help decrease the curl. Sometimes a humidifier will help if you are in a small room. Or you could buy a d roller, but that will probably damage the paper.

yes, a droller definitely damages it. I tried a tube as wide as 6" or so, sill damaged it.
Guess it's time to go to home despot for a concrete from...
This paper should NOT be this difficult to deal with. I emailed Ilford about it, got a very nice and long reply that was way off base, and when I replied back to that never heard another word. Need large sheets.

I have no issues whatsoever after having the unit updated with the current spec parts.

Pinch rollers and star wheels - do a search, it's a well covered topic.

I've had the pinch rollers replaced with the tan coloured ones. The tech said I had the latest star wheels (how can you tell if they are the new ones?).
How does this affect the printing in the sense that the paper has a lot of curl and the Z3100 does not have a vacuum hold down system? I'd really like to use GFS in my Z3100 as the sheets don't come in large enough sizes.

Short answer, there is no problem with the curl. I have never decurled any of my rolls. The new wheel assembly has black tab shims on the sides to raise the platform to a higher manual position. It's been covered with pictures in previous large threads already.
