Title: River of Grass
Post by: wolfnowl on July 07, 2008, 03:49:25 pm
In June the Governor of Florida, Charlie Crist, announced plans to invest $1.7B to purchase 800 sq km (300 sq miles) of land used to grow sugarcane and revert it back to its natural state as part of the Florida Everglades region.  "The aim is to restore the fabled "river of grass", a 160-kilometre (99-mile) long, shallow river flowing unimpeded from Lake Okeechobee to Florida Bay."  It's being called the largest ecological restoration project in the history of the US.
