Title: Legal issues...
Post by: BryanHansel on April 25, 2005, 06:03:24 pm
I'm no legal expert, but it comes down to usage, this is a simple rule of thumb.

If it's for editorial usage, i.e. a magazine article, cover, newspaper then no you probably don't need to worry about it.

If it's for commercial usage, i.e. advertisement then yes, you need to get permissions.

If I take a photo at a sports event and it happens to include people in the stands, can I be sued for publishing such a  photo if I do not obtain permission from any person shown in that photo?

Also would the same rule apply to taking pictures at a motorcycle rally or a company picnic?

Thanks for any comments.

On other threads with a similar topic I have recommended the following book as must reading for photographers:  Legal Handbook for Photographers by Bert P. Krages, Esq.
