Title: Mirror RAID "degraded" since Leopard
Post by: dandeliondigital on June 25, 2008, 04:55:48 pm
Hi Group,
I've got a matched pair of Seagate External FW drives setup as a MIrror RAID. (Well actually I have 3 sets like this).

For some reason, and since I have upgraded to Leopard, I've had this one (and one other) become "degraded." I never ever had a problem with them under Tiger, and I thought I was "solid" but now I'm feeling worried.

I am wondering what could be the cause of this. THe cables are new high quality ones, and they were originally connected to a Belkin FW hub. To get back on track, I took the hub out of the loop, but I've had this happen twice in 2 days.

Luckily I've been able to let Disk Utility "Rebuid the RAID," at the cost of about 12 hours work.

Could the drive be going bad? Maybe Leopard would like me to reformat them using the latest and last best version of Disk Utility?

Any comments or suggestions to nail this problem are appreciated.

Thanks in advance, and so long for now, TOM

I can't offer a real solution but we also encountered a few degraded raid issues on Xserves. These computers were all running Tiger and in all the cases we ended-up changing the drives.

Is it always the same drive that is affeted by the problem?

Hi,
I'm not sure, but since I've been on the case, I am paying a lot more attention.

I'll let you know when I learn anything new.

Thanks, and so long for now, TOM
