Beautiful images. I especially like the first photo. All have a great retro feel, sort of like the "Sky Captain" look. (Unless you hated that movie; in that case forget what I wrote).
-
All really well done. I like the 2nd one the best. Thanks for sharing...
Mike.

I live about 25 miles from Philly in North Wales, PA. I have crossed the BF bridge many times, but I never saw it like you show it in your photos. Really nice.
What were they shot with and how did you post-process (assuming that they are digital captures)?
Thanks for sharing.

Those were taken with a Nikon D70 (just bought a D300 two day ago). The processing was done in Photoshop and PhotoKit. I live 200 feet from the bridge so I have a chance to shoot and re-shoot a lot. I print these at 10" x 10" on Crane Museo Silver Rag paper using an Epson 4880.
Thanks

I really like all of them--thought I had a favorite and then you posted the others LOL. The prints must be lovely--esp. on that paper and with the approach you took both to how you shot them and the processing. What a treat it must be to be that near and have the opportunity to shoot over and over under varied conditions, viewpoints, etc.

You have a good eye for composition, and I love the tonality in these shots.

Hopefully we'll be seeing them there. I'd love to have these to look at many more times.
Besides the fact that I really like the work, I grew up near Pittsburgh and just love bridges.

PhotoEye asked to be in their "Bistro" section but I think I'm going to turn that down after emails I received from some photographers.

That's awesome! My #77 just arrived today, I can't wait to see 78 now!!
-
Congratulations on an amazing collection of photos.
Not only have you captured the grand beauty of a structure that I'm sure many people pass on a daily basis without a second glance but you've also captured its fine detail. One of my favourite photos (although its tough to select one) is the one looking skyward of the rivets.
The way in which you've PP the photos also adds to the great mood you've captured.
Well done

Stunning work. The precision of the detail is outstanding and it's hard to believe that they were captured with only a dSLR.
Justin.

LensWork issue #78 showed up today that features 12 of my Ben Franklin Bridge portfolio in the print edition and another 10 in the extended DVD version. This made my year !

Congratulations! nice of you to let us see your work in advance! When i saw the magazine...it almost felt like...hey, i know this photographer....saw him on LL first!...
-
Damn the fact that I'm in Canada -- I still don't have my copy yet. I am definitely looking forward to seeing these in print though!
-
Thanks everyone it means a lot to me.
-
I just wanted to post a followup. The response from being published in LensWork has been tremendous as well as the response from this board. It was an exciting experience working with Brooks and Maureen who also made the whole thing seem easy. It has opened many doors and has taken my photography career to the next level.

-
Well done, Michael- congratulations.
To me, your work shines on many fronts and clearly issues forth from a man with vision. I particularly enjoy the post processing: high contrast, wide dynamic range, and loads of detail.
I can only offer critique of image #4 from your original post: some of the vertical lines are not quite vertical, and given your attention to geometric forms, I believe a bit of correction in PS would strengthen its delivery.
John

Stop it!!! You're making me homesick and I thought I would never want to go back!
All I can say is WOW! and here I thought I was lucky to get over the gate and shoot a sunset from the middle of the bridge.
That has to be over 25 years ago now, and I was shooting color slides. i did the same shot up the side of the tower. My color shots never came off with the same intensity of your B/W's.
I used to love going over at anytime day or nite into the city and there was always something to do or shoot. The refinery at nite was a good place, also.
Alas, all i have up here is Acadia Nat. Park to shoot.

I feel this project is close to being finished due to the fact that access inside the bridge has been denied by Homeland Security. They did however allow me to take a photo from the crosswalk.
