Title: 11900 coming?
Post by: narikin on May 19, 2008, 01:16:57 pm
anyone know if an 11900 is in the pipeline?
the heavy manufacturers rebates and leaked 7900/ 9900 10 channel upgrades seem to point that its on the cards.

sorry to ask, but it s a lot of money to spend and have an out of date machine in a few months time!

p.m. me if you prefer to remain confidential. t.i.a.

You'll notice that Epson tends to roll out new technology with a few printers rather than an entire line all at the same time. The 3800 introduced new screening tech, teflon-like coated heads and black switching, the x880 printers brought the K3+VM inkset and the 11880 brought the faster heads with dual black support.

The lack of dual black support on some models is Epson's Achilles heal that is paramount that they address next. Especially on the profitable and popular 44" category.  I'd be surprised if the 11880 is refreshed to market by the end of the year. On a related note, the current price difference between the 11880 (with rebate $15K) and iPF 9100 ($9K) is notable.

The 3800 doesn't have the new type coating on the head, just a normal Epson F8 head. The 11880 used the new TFP head with the ink repellant coating and the 4/7/9880 use the F8 head with the coating applied.
