do both the base model and the APS model z3100 have embedded spectro?

Yup they all do. There is a PS and non PS(postscript) model. The PS has been shipping with the APS, but you can also buy the non-PS and get the APS later.

Other than the software the only difference I see in the specs is the APS version has 256Mb of memory Vs 128 in the standard version. Don't know how much that would affect performance.

I have the base model Z3100. It has the embedded spectro. The profiling without the APS has been fine for my purposes.

There is more memory, I thought the hard drive is larger, and above all there is a hard ware embedded Adobe Postscript RIP chip on the communications card that opens up all sorts of possibilities for document file formats and other features that the RIP offer in the PS model.
