Title: Can I bring this on a plane?
Post by: jerrygrasso96 on April 10, 2008, 07:40:30 am
Will I get hassled by the airlines if I bring a carryon bag (with my clothes...) and a 17x22 Portfolio case? Or will I have to check the case into baggage??

Thanks for whatever help anyone can give me...

Speak to the airline in advance, stressing how delicate and valuble it is.  If a double bass can pass as hand luggage.....

Whether the airline lets you carry on the portfolio case is entirely up to the airline, but as a TSA officer, I've seen all kinds of crazy stuff get carried on.  I also work in checked baggage and can tell you first hand that if they make you check the bag make sure it is well protected.  Stuff marked "fragile" gets treated exactly the same as any other luggage.

Worse actually, or so I'm told.

Just say it's for your baby (borrow someone else's for a few minutes if necessary) and they will let you carry ANYTHING on!

Any airline I have ever flown on required that carry-on luggage fit either in the overhead compartments, or under the seat in front of you. And I don't think that is a rule the individual airlines can bend, as it has to do with exit procedures in case of an emergency during takeoff/landing.
