For your information:

the new Sinar eXposure will be officially released with the public version 6.0 next Monday, April 07th in the morning (GMT +1)

In the meantime, our distributors have been informed that they can download and get this eXposure  version 6.0 for their own use as per now, for them to be ready to distribute it to our customers starting next Monday.

I'm quite satisfied of this software, they have done a good job finally!
Now also the complete metadata is visible in PS, and also the remote control of the  camera is working.
The file is very similar to Brumbear's one ... some little differences are still there but ... good job Sinar!

Good news: the program works in different languages (automaticaly in french with my Mac !). Bad news: of course it does not support my prehistoric Sinarback 43HR. And... it seems that this will never be possible... I only have to buy a new back to play with this program !

A question: what other backs will be able to work with the next versions of eXposure? And when ? Is it possible to have a real answer ?

P.S.: I am now working with the new ß version of the 5.5.2, who works really better than the 5.5.1.

PdF,

No, eXposure will support ALL Sinarbacks (and Eyelike backs) with FIREWIRE interface. The only backs which will NOT be supported are the backs with fiber optical interface.

An ETA is not yet known, but these backs shall be supported as soon as possible with a coming version. Michael or myself shall inform as soon as we have this information.

Best regards,
Thierry

Xposure is here! thank you Sinar.
Does an eMotion 22 need to be upgraded to Firmware 5 to connect, or will 4.22 be ok?

thanks, David

Dear David,

The eMotion does not need any firmware update, UNLESS you wish to shoot with the Sinar Hy6 camera directly from eXposure (Slave mode) and control the Hy6 camera through software: in this case you need to update to version 5.0, other than that no.

I would however recommend to update to at least 4.45 or even 4.95, since some major improvements have been achieved both in displayed images and IQ in general.

Best regards,
Thierry

Michael G,

It would be terrible if one to has to re-position & close the separate control palettes EACH time the application is booted up.  Instead of resetting default, it needs to be savable according to the user's preference.
Or, am I missing something?

Edit:
I just tried again, with the same results.  For example.....
in the process tab, I dragged the input profile and working space to the bottom, I uncheck the sharpening, and I collapse the triangles to close input profile, working space and sharpening since I don't need to see these at all times.  When I quit out of the application and reboot, everything goes back to the default settings.

After playing with Exposure for a while, it seems to be an improvement in many ways. The zoom and navigator tools are a pleasure to use now, and of course it's great to be using DNG as the raw format and not have to worry so much about file type obsolescence, as well as making it easer to play with various raw developers. Separating the contact sheet and develop window increases productivity - I was always switching preview size in Captureshop. I also like the new histogram. The noise reduction filter is not there but that's easily handled in PS, and I hear that a future version will include NR. I expect I will find more improvements/differences in time.

There is no eMotion 54, only 54 LV: it is an eMotion 22 with Live Video capability.

The SB 54 H will be supported in a version to come.

Dear Billy,
I think you missed something. Normally the software stores automatically the settings of the user interface and will have the same user interface after a restart. Within the tabs thats works only if you are moving the PlugIns inside a Tab. for example you can move the saturation on top of the "process tab" and it will be there also after a restart. It is also possible to move the saturation silder into the "Capture Tab"  but that won't be stored so after a restart the saturation is again in the process tab.

The functionality to move a plug in to a other tab is for a future function in eXposure.

best regards
Michael

Thank you Michael,
I'm not asking clearly enough, so I've attached a snapshot of how I'd like the controls to stay.
See where crop, working space, input profile & unsharp mask are moved to the bottom area, and that they all collapsed/closed.

[attachment=6020:attachment]

I will try using eXposure tomorrow for a beauty editorial, so I may have more feedback for you.

Michael,
I find CaptureShop's implementation better here
because checkboxes and values are still visible when collapsed/closed.
I prefer the "Save As" triangles on the right hand side better than the tiny "i" in eXposure.

Where/How in eXposure does one name their files when tethered?

Here's "Session Name" dialog box in CaptureShop:

Dear Billy,
there is no way to give the images a Session Name. The default name is always the same name as the folder, but you can rename the images in a batch. That was not possible in Captureshop. To do that choose all files make a double click on on name an rename it. All images will be renamed added with a number. If you want to you can choose if all numbers, only even numbers or odd numbers are used.

And it is easier for me when I have that in my mail program direct.

Hello Michael

Would you mind explaining  the intent and how the Color Calibration listed under the Capture pull down works?

Can you also explain how the shading calibration will work............for both tethered and untethered shooting and will there be a way to address the vignetting that is caused by shifting the lenses away from their optical center.

I am specifically interested in understanding the untethered workflow using Xposure

thankyou

Dear Prakesh,
the color calibration is making more or less a profile. It is stored as a matrix and not like profile as a look up table. That gives as a better control.

The color calibration can be directly with new captured images. In that case it is possible to correct uneven light with a kind of shading correction for the chart area. You can also make a color calibration after the shot. Therefore you have to choose a image from the contact sheet and start the color calibration. The color calibration can be assigned to single or multiple images via the image parameter.

The shading calibration is at the moment only usable in tethered mode. If you have made a color calibration you have to assign the shading calibration while you are shooting. It is not possible to change the shading of a image afterwards.

Best regards

Michael

good to see people happy with sinar software for a change. I see this as a major step forward for sinar. that is actually an understatement. I think this could save sinar. I was prepared to use my E75 as a paper weight since it was impossible to use with captureshop. exposure has so much to offer sinar owners now. I have put away my plans to buy a leaf. of course it is a new release and has bugs, but for now it seems so much more reliable than captureshop. the features are excellent especially things like the overlay. very well done sinar. thank you. we were waiting for this. now for the bugs.

please get a session naming application for this and fast.

Ok this is so basic I feel the fool asking but here goes. Am I crazy or is there no way to assign a capture folder in the program. I cant seem to change the folder that the images go to. I double click a folder in the browser window and the contact sheet changes but then i try a tethered capture and it doesnt go there, instead it goes to the previous capture folder.

I had the same problem at first. Actually you are browsing different folders when you click on them. You need to assign capture folders separately. I don't have it open in front of me but I believe you click on the 'contact sheet' tab in the cameras panel to select the current folder as the capture folder.

Dear Guys,

the reason why it is different to Captureshop is that eXposure is able to mount several backs at once and you can choose for every back a different shooting folder. Nevertheles it is only possible to shoot with one Back at once, but if you change the back the software will remember the right folder where the backs shoot before.

You will find the way how to choose a folder in eXposure in the manual as well

Best regards
Michael

I haven't had a chance to try this yet, since I don't have daily access to an eMotion digital back:

Let's say you start the day knowing you'll be doing twenty shots,
so you name each of the twenty folders accordingly with the date, description, model's name, whatever....

If the software is smart enough to use the folder's name for each file as it's captured,
then this is a real timesaver and stress reliever.

I was critical to Michael G. for the loss of CaptureShop's Session Name dialog box, but I like this implementation way better.

guys and gals I took eXposure out on a fashion shoot in Central Park last week. Shot tethered most of the day in rough circumstances. This is my report. Nothing. Nothing to report. Everything worked perfectly not a single crash or hiccup. Not when I exposed too fast not when I detached and reconnected not when I closed the laptop lid. Nothing. This software worked perfectly. I am amazed that Sinar could produce a crappy software package that would not work for years and should have been scrapped. And from the ashes comes this amazing interface that is as good as I have experienced.

Enough said. Now a question. How do I properly use a 24 spot color chart to make a profile? I have tried and made them but I fear I am doing it wrong as to switch between the default profile and the newly created one shows extreme changes in the image. I know how to shoot the card and measure it with and without a white reference but something seems off. I wonder if there are things that should be in place first like for example. Do I shoot the card and gray balance first, does the monitor profile matter? does the camera white and black reference matter? Anyone have experience in these things?

The color calibration can be done in two ways.

1. Tethered: Therefor you have to open the dialog in the software. Follow the instructions in the dialog itself

2. You can use a already taken image. Therefore choose a image in the contact sheet with a color checker. Open the color calibration dialog and follow the instructions. In this case you have to skip the second step with the white reference, cause it is not possible to make that afterward.

For the color calibration it doesn't matter if the image has a correct white balance, cause the calibration will be done with the RAW data without any correction applied even if you see it different in the preview. The monitor profile does not matters. The camera white and black reference does not matters too.

The reason why the profiles are showing big differences is that you are using different light compared to the factory color calibration.

... be sure that if we have to announce something, it will not be before Photokina.

Beside this:

- eXposure for Windows will be released by end of July

- The Sinar arTec is already something worth to be mentioned, announced already, but visible the very first time at Photokina in Cologne, DE.

Best regards,
Thierry

The SB 54 H will be integrated in eXposure after the eVolution 75: no ETA yet, but possibly end of 2008.

Best regards,
Thierry

hi thierry,

does this means that 54M will also be supported at the same time frame as the 54H?

hi Jeanne,

We will do our possible to integrate the SB 54M to be supported with the Photokina released version, but without promise.

Best regards,
Thierry
