Title: LLVJ Pricing
Post by: Darrill on March 17, 2008, 05:43:14 pm
Now that the LLVJ delivery mechanism is changing from DVD to download it might be worth reviewing the pricing model.

When you had one physical disk of approximately 5gb to prepare and mail it made sense to use its entire capacity. You had to wait for everything to be ready as you only had one chance to get it sent or your cost base would be challenged.

But now new material can be downloaded when it is ready. Costs are incurred when  the content is created and downloaded.

So perhaps it is time to think about marketing each segment individually (with perhaps a discount for purchase of a package equivalent to a DVD). Or sell a larger package of 20 segments that can be downloaded over time when the customer finds a segment of interest. This could be a way to sell past material where someone wanted only a specific segment.

Only you will know how your customer base will best respond to this change. There are a number of possibilities. Revenue might rise as popular segments attract new purchasers no longer put off buy having to buy material they are not interested in. Revenue might drop as people only purchase one or two segments leaving some material on the shelf. Of course one could argue that this would help you to create more attractive content.

Just a suggestion,

We have been thinking along these lines for some time.

I expect that we will only be releasing one more DVD (#18, later this year) to fulfill the bulk of our previous subscription obligations, and then will be download only.

At that time we expect to have some very interesting new download products and bundles available.
