Title: Aperture 2.0 seems to support plug-ins
Post by: francois on February 13, 2008, 05:49:16 am
I just read an article (http://apertureprofessional.com/showthread.php?t=11851) in which the author says that Aperture 2.0 supports edit plug-ins (in addition to export plug-ins). I can find no mention of this new feature on Apple web pages.

I think it’s important to mention one of the greatest new features of Aperture 2.0, but the one that’s likely (at first) to be overlooked. Apple has added the ability to create editing plug-ins for Aperture, which will, over time, revolutionize the program. Having an edit plug-in interface means that Aperture users will be able to do just about anything to their images. It’ll be possible to create plug-ins that replicate film effects, add borders, allow for selective edits like dodging and burning—the possibilities are pretty endless. For the purist who only wants to focus on Aperture’s image editing tools, there’s no need to ever add a plug-in, but for those who have been hankering to extend the program’s capabilities—your wish has been granted.

18 months ago I went to an aperture seminar in London. The demonstrator was talking about the ability to provide this feature in the future.

It would be very useful to be able to use a number of the plugins that I use in CS directly in Aperture or Lightroom. However I do not think that we will see the serious offerings, like Photokit, Noise Ninja etc, as Aperture plugins in the short to mid term - if ever!

IMHO I agree with the above post about offerings such as frame borders, effects and film emulators etc,
