Lovely shots!

To me it looks as if Olafsfjordur is near Akureyri. I've been there just once, in 1974 in the summer. No aurora at that time of year. I'd love to get back some day.

Thanks Gill for those amazing images. Just out of curiosity - are the colours pretty much close to what you see with the naked eye?? I haven't travelled to your part of the globe, and was wondering whether this phenomenon was actually green and is what you actually see?

(Just to clarify - I am not in the camp where I think that photographs should be 'realistic' or endeavour to depict exactly what you think you see, I am just interested in the phenomenon)

Thanks for all the comments. julie they are not as strong green as on the pictures, they show stronger on picture because they paint in with 5-30 sec exposure just as the rest of the landschape they can only be seen at night. The Aurora in not alvais green they can be purple or pink also. It helps alot when it's full moon then you can shorten the expousure. Few more pictures.
