Post by: -Andrew- on October 11, 2003, 10:19:26 am
G'day

I'm quite a nerd  ::  and i regularly visit several space sites.
Here are some, i'm not quite sure if they'll have what you're looking for, but worth a look.

Space.com (http://www.space.com)
Space Weather (http://www.spaceweather.com) (go to links at bottom of page)
Sky & Telescope (http://www.skyandtelescope.com)

I use my Magellan GPS quite often for this purpose.  It gives constant overhead position data for the sun and moon plus sunrise/set, moonrise/set, phase, and compass direction.  It's dead on accurate and always up to date where ever you are.

I was wondering where on the internet or other places I could go to find detailed notations of where the moon or sun will be in the sky at different times.  Example: when will the moon be on the west horizon low in the sky and at its largest point in my geographic area.  Any information would be appreciated.

I use this: http://www.aho.ch/pilotplanets/ (http://www.aho.ch/pilotplanets/).  It is a STELLAR tool if you have a Palm handheld, giving exact alt/azm positions for the sun, moon, planets, comets and many stars from any latitude/longitude/altitude of viewing position.  You can download the full version for a free 30 day trial.

I use a PocketPC program Ephemeris: http://luminous-landscape.com/reviews/pocket_pc.shtml (http://luminous-landscape.com/reviews/pocket_pc.shtml)
