I am new to the ZD camera and have so far used in camera Standard Color Mode and SilkyPix.
What is the experience of more seasoned users of the ZD?
a) Any benefit to using other in camera color modes? I shoot RAW.
b ) What about SilkyPix compared to Lightroom? I do like the color mode presets in SilkyPix. Has anyone switched from SilkyPix to Lightroom? And what pros/cons?
Much thanks.
Regards

SilkyPix is cool software, but I do add a few tweaks for use with my ZD
- I use a saved "taste" for sharpness that is weaker than the Silky default, but with higher (50%) false colour control and lower noise reduction.
- I always develop at 100% Demosaic Sharp.
- I sometime bump up saturation a little. and maybe warm the white balance.

Quentin, Much thanks for your reply. I have been using SilkyPix for my D200 for about a year. I think I should re-read its manual again to learn it in further more details.
Do you use Standard Color Mode in camera? Or... perhaps those modes similar to D200 really do not have much effect when shooting RAW?
Thanks!

Here's a shot developed in LR 1.1, all I did was bump the exposure up by a third. All other settings are LR standard presets. I could get a lot more out of this pic but didn't for this example. I think the colour is very acceptable without doing much to it.
I find LR so much better than SilkyPix from a UI perspective and general workflow. Printing from LR is awesome, as is simple web page creation.
Download the trial, try it out for a month.

Hey Nik did you run some kind of de graining to that image?
It looks really noise free for a ZD?
Just wondering b/c it looks really nice..:+}
Also was that tripod long exposure?
Thanks for any more information...

No special software for de-graining. Just LR, with no noise reduction applied. It was shot on a tripod, mirror-lock up, 0.6 second, ISO50. Also, it's best viewed with the Safari web browser.

Hi, I just saw the new released package of Mamiya 645 ZD with 80mm f2.8 on the website. I wonder if it is already available on the street or able to place international order for that..
Is Snook interested in the ZD too? I just saw your images made with the 1Ds MarkII, extremely nice
I remember Quentin posted a test shot previously in Dpreview (a shot of a street, if I'm not mistaken), it was a super fine image, as I recalled..

Hi,
The ZD kit with ZD back, AFDII body and 80mm lens is available for sale here in Canada at Vistek. We also have the ZD back on its own in stock, and 1 ZD camera available as well.

Thanks Zisiang for the comment...
I am thinking about getting a PhaseOne P30+ back with a AFDII system. Ofcourse if the ZD turns out with better reviews I would consider one to try out?
Seems to be a Purple problem in the shadows that a new thread has come out with.
It is Hard to beat the 1DsMII for most of what I do.. I do billboards and double pages in Magazines all the time and never have had one complaint..:+}
I just have noticed how the Medium F looks A little more 3D'sh and is probably easier to crop in on if needed.
I have been and will wait until more people get ZD's in their hands to see whatthey think.
I have only seen 2 reviews and some were a little bias.
The others are several years old already.
I am really concerned about the 2-3 year old technology that the ZD has..
Whey really messed up waiting so long and I find it weird it has been out for 18 months overseas and there are not many reviews...

Snook and others,
Availability is slightly off my topic as posted
In regards to off topic though let me make following comments
Availability:
Lack of reviews due lack of marketing and because internet is much dominated by writings from U*S*A and ZD back is just recent available (and in USA).
Hong Kong typically has lowest camera prices worldwide. I bought mine from agent http://www.sellenhk.com (http://www.sellenhk.com) . They had both ZD camera and back.
Reviews (including non English):
http://luminous-landscape.com/forum/index....topic=17333&hl= (http://luminous-landscape.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=17333&hl=)
Problems:
ZD camera seem very solid, very few problems, latest firmware is advised http://luminous-landscape.com/forum/index....topic=17688&hl= (http://luminous-landscape.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=17688&hl=)
and it has been out for I think over 18 months.
Lets stick to OP topic now though...
Regards
Anders
