Post by: WayneDrury on June 09, 2007, 01:02:18 pm
Hi,

I just purchased your Lightroom v1 Tutorials and once I have unzipped the files and play them in Quicktime latest version v7.1.6 in Vista they all judder.  In fact so bad they are all unwatchable.

Is this a know problem?

I can play any trailer from apple.com/trailers or any of my other quicktime files without problem.

Please help, thanks.

Wayne

This is a well-known problem with QuickTime & Vista (all answered in our Download Video FAQ (http://luminous-landscape.com/videos/Dwnld_Video-faq.shtml)).

When all else fails, use VLC Media Player (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/)

Also see this particular FAQ:

Q: When I try to play a video the sound is absolutely fine, but the screen just shows green/black fuzziness

A: Open QuickTime 7
Click on Edit tab and go to Preference,
Then click on QuickTime Preference.
Once that opens, click on Advanced tab
You will see a selection for video or Direct X : unclick the Direct X radio button
Click on Safe mode (GDI only)
Then click on Apply, then OK.
Restart QuickTime and play a movie to test.

Thanks for the reply:

I also found a wonderful solution by removing Quicktime and installing QuicktimeAlternative_1.8.

QuicktimeAlternative_1.8 can be grabbed from here:
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/QuickT...Alternative.htm (http://www.free-codecs.com/download/QuickTime_Alternative.htm)

Full details on Quicktime Alternative here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quicktime_Alternative (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quicktime_Alternative)

I can now play all the files smoothly through Windows Media Player and still have the embedded web site QT player functionality (eg. for viewing film trailers at apple.com/trailers)

Works perfectly.
