Any tips or suggestions based on your experience in un-crating and setting up the Z3100 printer would be appreciated...especially if you had to bring the unit to an upper floor without an elevator. Is it feasible for the printer to be uncrated at street level and transported to an upper floor in pieces?

Mine is in a second floor. I definitely recommend unboxing and transporting the pieces to the upper floor. It's lighter and much less bulky that way. The main unit is still heavy but can be handled by two reasonably strong people.
Beyond that, just follow the excellent HP instructions for assembly and setup.

Ron is right. Leave the pallet outside.

Third that; unbox it outside or at street level.
Mine went up two flights of extremely tight stairs to my attic studio; the pallet wouldn't even fit through the front door.
Also keep in mind that once it's filled with ink, tipping it is a very, very bad idea. (I have no idea how i'll get it back down the stairs when I change rooms, but I expect it will involve either a hoist or total ink purge.)

Thank you all for your replies. Based on your suggestions, I've decided to have a 'Z' setup party and will invite at least a couple of 'ringers'. (guys that spend a lot of time at the gym) And, no alcoholic beverages 'til the printer is safely assembled!

Yes the box folds down too so you can conserve it. I put mine in an attic.
If you tip up the printer after it's been running the diapers will probably leak ink and glycol over the optical drop detector and calibration tape. You'd want to put a lot of paper towel in this cavity before doing so.
The Z is the easiest printer to set up anyone has seen in LFP. Have fun and take your time.
The screwdrivers are even in the box , you'll see.

Oh I did forget a tip. Save the orange print head caps or at least 3 so you can use them in the plastic window open cover switch. They are perfect for running with the hood open!

It is a great forum. It is perhaps the only forum too. Well there is the yahoo HP printers forum.
Ernst made a forum for other lfp's too.
HP fail with their own forums. They don't want to help to get one going either. So long live LL!
PS I'm writing a review on the Z. I will post it soon and following up with pages on how to with Z printers. First things first. Back to writing.
