Title: File Formats for Archival Storage
Post by: fike on April 19, 2007, 08:41:47 am
I hadn't really given DNG much thought until recently when it dawned on me that at some point, photoshop CS14, or some other future version, will stop supporting the 30D CR2 raw format.  What will I do with all those hundreds of gigabytes of images that are irretreivable?  What is the answer?

PSD?
JPG?
DNG?
lossless TIF?

DNG has gained some ground in the market, but it doesn't seem to be that prevalent.  Are there bulk DNG converters?  Do you keep both the DNG and CR2 file?

Adobe does make a bulk DNG converter.  You can download it for Mac or Windows:

http://www.adobe.com/products/dng/ (http://www.adobe.com/products/dng/)

I've been using it since about the beginning of the year without issue.
