Title: Archiving files - Virtual copies and history
Post by: flash on March 07, 2007, 08:11:10 pm
As a wedding photographer I shoot large numbers of images. Up to 3000 per week. I want to be able to archive my RAW files on DVD's (2 copies: one local one off site) with the XMP sidecar files instead of storing every processed file as well. Then I can delete the files from my hard drive. Eventually I would also remove them from the library. If I need a file again I can reimport from the DVD. I don't want my library to become unmanageable and I don't want to archive on to HDD's.

My question is does the XMP file store the following.
1. Keywords.
2. Virtual Copies
3. History Information

In other words if I copy my RAWs and XMP's to disc will I have these on reimport if I need them.

Thanks

Gordon

Yes to 1, but right now it's No to 2 and 3.

For now you might consider archiving the lrdb file too, and could even work with more than one library.

Thanks John. That's what I'll do.
