The answer is: It depends.

Asking what camera someone should buy is a common thing that never yields a truly useful answer. Only you can answer it. We can only simply offer advise as to where to look but before anyone can actually help you with that even, you must be able to answer the following two questions:

1: What kind of photography do you plan on doing?
2: What lens system most appeals to you?

After that, you want to go to a camera shop and hold some cameras to see what bodies are the most comfortable to use for you.

Are you looking to get lenses for that $600-900?

You might consider the pentax k110D.  (Or the K100D if you want antishake in the body for about $100 more.)  You'll have enough for a 18-55 lens, a 50-150 or so.

hey guys thanks for the replys, but i talk to a buddy of mine and i was really trying to decide between a canon and a nikon, but i think im gonna go with the canon XTi, i found it for 680 without a lens, and i have a canon rebel g(film) and im just gonna use that lens for now, and my dad has a zoom lens so its only common sense to go with that camera. thanks tho.

I am in the market for Canon EOS 350D Digital Rebel XT Digital SLR. I have been reading expert reviews and that has been useful to me. It may be help you too. I had been using PCWorld.com, cnet.com to find reviews. Yesterday I used PriceGrabber’s expert review tab (http://www.pricegrabber.com/info_expertrev...asterid=7139451 (http://www.pricegrabber.com/info_expertreviews.php/masterid=7139451))
and found a site (www.smartratings.com (http://www.smartratings.com)) that aggregates expert reviews. It only covers a few categories but it is pretty neat. Just my $.02.

Tank48:  This is a frequent question on this list.  I'd suggest doing a little searching, and read what's already been offered!
