Hey all, just wanted to pass on that Arca-Swiss had a pretty amazing prototype pancake camera at PhotoPlus here in NY. They were calling it the M3D, and it had a few really cool features:
1) Zoom viewfinder
2) tilt to about 5 or so degrees
3) helical focusing built into the body. Lenses mount via a simple bayonet type of mount, thus precluding the need for expensive helical mount for each lens a la Cambo WDS
Shift is in one direction only, so camera would have to be rotated depending on desired shift (rise/fall vs. lateral)
Availability around March '07
The overall dimensions are around 8" square, and will have ability to mount sliding adapters, MF film backs and DB's.
Anyone else heard or seen of this? First I've seen of it.

Looks very interesting.
For a super wide and shift mf system to go in combination with mf slr (contax 645) I was going to look at the silvestri bicam 7000 that gives 15mm shift, 24mm lens upwards, is pretty compact, takes film backs and digital backs and the helical mounts are not as overpriced as the cambo system...i was looking at this over the cambo wds due to smaller size and easier on the wallet to add lenses.
If I can wait it will be good to get more details of the arca system..i.e. how much rise, shift, and price of body, back, db adapters, focussing aids, etc, etc.

There seem to be 2 versions of the camera , a L (large format, 4x5inch), and a m (probably 6x9).
I only had the possibility to look a few seconds at it at the photokina.
I'm looking for a wide solution to go with my P25 and my flexbody, and this camera is the reason i didn't buy a Cambo or a Horseman yet.
The price will probably be near these two cameras two.(i expect..)
Hmm, i didn't remember it only shift in one direction at the time. for 90% of my work this is fine.
I hope we get some online reviews soon.

Alpa has something like that called the X-Y. Badgergraphic.com has it listed for $6,444.

I too only had a brief moment with it, so don't hold me to many details. The one I saw was slightly different than the PDF image, having two silver knobs, with one for tilt, and one for shift. The focus ring was also silver and very large in diameter around the lens mount. The designer was there, and quite proud of his little baby...can't blame him either.

Don't know about that Heinrich, I was at the Arca booth, it was called the M3D, and the camera is essentially the same as the one pictured in the PDF document, with the differences I outlined above.
Might you have an image or link to the XYZ?

no i think it was the arca. i didn't see the alpa at the show.
