Title: What scope for digiscoping
Post by: monstermuley on October 22, 2006, 03:41:22 pm
Hello everyone, I am going to get into digiscoping and am thinking about going with the bushnell elite 20x60x80 ED spotting scope. Has anyone used one and what are your thoughts?

I have another question as well, I have a sony DSC-H2 point and shoot and I have a Nikon D50 DSLR. What would I be better off going with for digiscoping.

Is there a attachment for the sony to go to the above mentioned spotting scope. I believe the sony has a 58mm filter flange.

Any help would be greatly aprieciated.

Try here (http://www.shortcourses.com/how/digiscoping/digiscoping.htm) for lots of starting points and there a lots of helpful links.  One comment I read recently made me rethink my (vague, future) plans for a scope purchase, related to the size/weight/cost of the 80mm vs the 60mm for little real gain.  The Bushnell you mention seems to be their top end model, while for the same money you could get into a 60 from one of the "higher quality" optics companies.

I think a DSLR would connect by a T-mount adapter and not use the zoom eyepiece while the P&S mounts on the zoom eyepiece; Former would prolly give you better quality images at high ISO but fewer pixels in the image, while the latter would give you  more pixels and more noise...

Both Opticron and Nikon makes attachments for fitting a digicam to a spottingscope. I'm sure others do too and one brand (Kowa?) make a scope with integrated camera.
Haven't tried myself (yet), but you don't get as much enlargement from a dslr as from a digicam (naturally since the sensor on a dlsr is larger).
