Title: LEAF / DALSA Finallt Steps to the Plate!
Post by: mkravit on October 18, 2006, 12:21:46 pm
FINALLY!
After 10-1/2 weeks the new APtus 75 arrived.

I spent the past 2 hours testing it with Schneider Digitar 24, 35 and 47mm lenses. I used 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25mm rise/shift.

I distorted the files in PSCS2 using curves and levels.....
Bottom line, the NEW Aptus 75 appears to be (bad words deleted ;-)) perfect!

No centerfold, no color shift (unlike the Phase back I had), absolutely perfect.

glad to hear that yours is perfect. the centerfold and cast problems were never consistent across all aptus backs - so let's hope that the centerfold problem doesn't rear it's ugly head again in other backs to be shipped.

Glad to hear it Michael.

BTW, this is not the upcoming FW800 version right? AFAIK, those are not shipping until next year.

Again, congrats.

Correct, this is NOT the upcoming Aptis 75s version. I am told that Dalsa has been working to solve the problem for a number of months. It has taken them time to find a fix make the sensors and test it, then go back and make more changes.

That's great news Michael!
I'll still be testing the eMotion-75/P45+ and the Aptus-75s when they are all available.
I still believe lens cast is a problem with all the backs, hence the extra functions in most of the software that's available.

I'm also curious which back will integrate the nicest with the Hy6.

Again,I'm glad your happy!

It did put me off getting an Aptus-75 myself,or an eMotion-75 for that matter!

Cheers,

Willem.

That is really great, I have been following this issue with great interest and I need to decide on a back fairly soon, within 1-2 weeks. I am a fasion photographer and really need to move up to medium format digital as a tool along with my Canons.

I have heard so much about the Leaf Aptus from other fashion shooters. I have rented both the Leaf and the Phase anc much prefer the look of the Leaf file. Now that I know the Centerfold issue has been resolved I feel much more confident going in that direction.

Best of luck with your back....
Bill

I am supposed to get my Aptus 65 this week as well...the Leaf rep was so nice to loan me his Aptus 75 for about 4 weeks (on and off when I needed it)...the 75 is a little to slow for my tast....I shoot fashion and beauty and with me it is all about capturing the moment...the 75 left me "hanging"...but the results are thru the roof!!!

I am told that the 65 sensor is exactly the same, just 2mm smaller on the sides.....and the 65 is faster....now waiting for the 65s and upgrade so we can shoot near to ds1mkII speed.....I have to say that the images quality is sooooo much nicer (more film like) with the leaf compared to the Phase back...(which I also tested the P30 and P45)...didn't like the Phase back much...is a great camera when you are shooting product (little to digital for me)...and the Phase one rep was an arrogant a-hole!
