Fancy Graphics Galore (http://www.luminous-landscape.com/reviews/accessories/fancy_graphics.shtml)

I've had the exact same out-of-gamut issue with some deeply saturated greens in a photograph from Canyonlands Nat'l Park that includes a juniper tree. It mystified me for a long time why it looked fine on-screen but printed smudged. I tried to "fix" my printer, which wasn't broken, until I learned about soft proofing - which also revealed the smudging. While this problem may be unusual, it's not as rare as I used to believe.
