Title: Morning visitors
Post by: MattBurt on July 03, 2018, 04:15:58 pm
Every year in this town they have a hot air balloon gathering the week of the 4th.
My location put me downwind of their launch site so they often come right over us and/or land in the nearby county fairgrounds and then re-launch from there.
Poor Luna is pretty sure they are fire breathing dragons coming for her!

I like them for rides and as photo subjects themselves. I snapped this from the street in front of my house this morning.

Cool shot. I'd like it more if the buildings at the bottom of the frame weren't cut off.   Or maybe if you aimed above them so they were completely eliminated but they would cut off bits of the other balloons in the distance.

Thanks. It was a tough call. The buildings and surrounding area aren't very attractive but I wanted to show context and distant balloons so I left a little in.
I can't disagree with your assessment, but I didn't like that framing when looking through the viewfinder.

Here are a couple more that include more foreground. I like the big graphic shapes of the shadow one so I took it to Silver Efex Pro.

Perhaps surprisingly for a scene which at first glance would rely entirely on bright colours, the B&W works well.

Matt, from where do these guys take off? Colorado Springs has an early morning balloon launch on the fourth. I can't believe they fly all the way to Gunnison.

Neat shot, by the way.

Thanks, they take off from Jorgensen Park in Gunnison, so close by!
The next morning (yesterday) I went out for a different perspective but it was very hazy from wildfire smoke.

Balloons always are beautiful.
