Title: David Douglas Duncan
Post by: Chris Kern on June 08, 2018, 07:29:37 pm
David Douglas Duncan has died (https://www.nytimes.com/2018/06/07/obituaries/david-douglas-duncan-102-who-photographed-the-reality-of-war-dies.html?smtyp=cur&smid=tw-nytobits) at 102.

I've had the opportunity to get to know a few combat journalists over the years.  (Print and broadcast reporters, not photographers, but they all do essentially the same job and take the same risks.)  Not a life I would have chosen, but the service they perform is essential.

To be honest, I looked at the name and couldn't bring an association to mind. But I remember all of the images in the article, except one. Courageous and important work these frontline people do. Without them, all we'd ever know would be from press-briefings.

To be sure, among the bravest of the brave since they choose to put themselves in harms way, unarmed, to inform the rest of us.

I served, did my duty, but guys like him make me feel very small.
