One of the things I love about certain glacial lakes is their color. The natural color of these lakes can be breathtakingly stunning. They seem to be illuminated best when the sun is plunging it's raw energy deep into the surface creating a deep bright aquamarine that is so beautiful it seems almost unnatural. This particular morning was a blight of low fog, with not much to be seen down low. But I had took a read on the satellite and cloud composition, and guessed that the low clouds were likely to burn off at some point so I climbed up as high as I could go in gray soup and sat for hours in the wet cold wind of Patagonia alone. A clearing opened up for seconds and closed again... another hour went by and I was preparing to leave when this gap opened revealing the shrouded Cuernos and the beautiful aquamarine lake below.

Top notch shot! The blue of the lake is unreal and the combination of backlit & fog give a sense of mystery or discovery. For those who have see the movie 1492: Conquest of Paradise, this shot reminds me the moment when Columbus is about to discover the New World and there's only a dense fog curtain. Suddenly the fog lifts and the shore is revealed.

Lovely seems inadequate. Lots of detail where needed and mist and softness giving mystery and making me want to see more of the lake and the "horns". I don't suppose I will ever visit this location but thank you for rekindling my interest in this location blunted by too many oversaturated "photo tour locations" shots taken at sunrise. Ken

Photo tours are very limited in Torres del Paine. The rules are essentially you are never to leave the trail or road for the entire park. This of course results in a lot of the same shots because tour leaders have no other choices.

I love those lakes too, and not just glacial but high alpine too. Nice shot!

It's a fine shot. There's a bit too much foreground for my taste, but that's just me.
