Title: New Horseman SW-D
Post by: Ed Jack on September 28, 2006, 02:57:35 pm
What do we know about the "new" SW-D, the old one is pretty cool IMHO?! Does it allow more shift or something...

Its about time that the SW-D came it in more fits than just the V-serries backs. If you use one of the newer backs from Phase and Leaf, they tend (for better or worse) to be fixed to one manufactuer on the back plate.

Anyone want to pester Horseman with requests for differnet "flavours" (yes that is how you spell it   ) of this mightie system, I for one can't use my Leaf valeo on this camera as it is H-serries fit.. there must be mamiya users in the same boat ?

The e-mail address is:

office@HorsemanUSA.com

How hard can it be to machine different plates for fitting different makes - especially when limmited electronic contacts are needed for this system - surely its worth making to increase sales, or am I missing something.

As the H is the only system than many were buying into (especially befroe this week)

I agree Horseman are shooting themselves in the foot

-----------

Cambo seem to have H mounts listed

I spoke to callumet UK yesterday trying to enquire about cambo miniwide

The first call handler didnt know what I was on about

Then I got lost in the phone system

Then someone said that the right person would ring me back

Then nothing

Anyone know other cambo dealers in the UK?

Thanks for the link Marc, I quote:

"With its unique interchangeable system, the SW-D II Pro is now compatible not
only with the Hasselblad "V" mount, but also Hasselblad "H" and Mamiya 645 mounts."

Subject closed... the new horseman (& 24mm lens) is definetly on my "wish list"... wil be in contact with Robert white shortly.

Is there a sliding back for this, or is the ground glass used by simply removing the back and then replacing again to take the image ?

An interesting (and bad for some) point is that the new swd2 is improved as it takes more than just v fit backs.
it now takes h series and mamiya afd also..the one missing is the contax fit.

Has anyone any experience with the new Horseman?

Concerned about the handling without geared movements?

Can the backs be rotated in all formats (V, H, M)?

Many thanks

Steve

I was speaking to a Phase One rep and they mentioned some special bundles that they have with horseman and cambo. Some of the cool new features of the Horseman are that it uses the Phase One Flex Adapter plates. These will allow you to change the mount on the horseman quickly . This will be perfect for people who may wish to rent it, because of the ease of having multiple mounts.
It seems like it may give Cambo a run for its money at the price point.
Hopefully Phase can help Horseman with the distribution and support that they have been lacking here in the States over the years.
Boy is MFdigital getting exciting!

The SW-D2 is in deed using the similar adapter plate from the Phase One so it can switch to use back of varies fitting quite quickly. The only draw back may be the SW-D2 was not using geared movement, but for what it costs, it is still quite a considerable affordable platform for wide angle shoot.
