Title: Can't "user define" paper size for Epson P800
Post by: stever on March 12, 2018, 07:00:14 pm
This has worked fine in the past but the saved print profiles have reverted to 8 1/2 x11 (or some other standard) paper size.  The user defined paper setup seems to work fine but after i save it and push okay the newly created paper size disappears??

Only LR? Can you define outside of that application? Again, what OS?
You may need to do the Epson Enema routine, assuming you're on a Mac:

1. Delete all instances of Epson printers from System Preferences>Print & Fax.
2. Then go to /Library/Printers and toss the whole Epson folder.
3. Toss LFP Remote Panel (IF you are using this utility for your printer).
4. Then reinstall drivers from Epson and never Apple.

I think we need to know the OS.  I”m confused as to what you mean but sounds like you are having an issue with saving a custom paper size in your page setup dialog box?  this is a function of the OS.

I'm on Windows 10 64 running LR 6.10 and an Epson P800, so I decided to try making a custom paper size. Here's what I tried:

1. In LR I picked an image to pretend to print, and went into the Print module.

2. I picked "Page Setup" (bottom left), and a "Print Setup" menu appeared, with a Paper Size defaulting to "Letter (8 1/2 x 11 in)", with a pull-down menu.

Pulling down that menu revealed a huge list of paper sizes, so I invented one that wasn't already there: 6x9". Since it wasn't in the list, I chose "User Defined" at the bottom of the list. It was a bit unsettling not to find any place to specfy the size I wanted, but I didn't give up. (This may be the point at which you began scratching your head.) I clicked "OK" to exit back into LightRoom.

3. Back in LR I set the margins to 0.5" all around and adjusted the cell size to 5.00 x 8.00". (Still no specific paper size!)

4. I next clicked "Printer" (bottom right), and in that Print menu I clicked "Properties." Part way down the page was "Paper Settings," including "Size," which defaulted to "User Defined." BUT This was different from the previous, similar menu in step 2 (above) , because now there was a new box to the right also labeled "User Defined..." And clicking this finally opened a menu letting me specify width and height of my new paper size, and to give it a "Paper Size Name." I called my size 6x9.

5. At this point I clicked "Cancel," since I don't have any 6x9" paper. But when I next looked at the list of paper sizes from Step 2 (above,) my new size of 6x9 was listed there with all the others!

Please try this and let us know if it works for you. It certainly seems a round-about way to define a paper size, and I suppose there is a good chance that I could have gotten there faster if I had tried the "Printer" button instead of the "Page Setup" button when I first started experimenting.

I hope this solves it for you.

Hi,

New to the forum, and just experienced a very similar problem to Stever/Eric's. So thought I'd start by sharing the solution I found ... as surely I will be needing assistance from others at some point in the not too distant future. :)

I think the problem may be related to User/Admin privileges. Here is the workaround that solved the problem for me:

1. Press "Windows Key - R" to open the Run dialog box
2. Enter "shell:PrintersFolder" then click OK
3. Right click on the printer you want to add paper sizes to, then select "Run as administrator > Properties"
4. Click on "Preferences" in the properties window
5. Add user defined paper sizes
6. Add named settings
7. Make certain settings are correct for default printing
8. Click OK to close preferences, then click OK to close properties
9. Close the Printers window.

FYI - my config is Windows 10, LR Classic 7.3.1

Hope this may help other Epson P800 Windows 10 users.

Just installed my P800 approx one week ago and loving it. Many thanks to the Kevin, Jeff (and 'Dano'!) for the Epson P800 printer/Legacy paper video tips.

I just spent a few hours with Epson Tech Support on this and a related problem, inability to save user-defined configurations for the P800 in Lightroom.  The support agent finally admitted that they have a problem with the driver (related to a revision of Windows 10, so they say).  The issue has been referred to the Driver Support team, who hopefully will come up with a fix.
