Title: Edit DCP files to desaturate more the lighter the color is
Post by: Erland on February 27, 2018, 06:43:25 am
Hi!

Long time, no post. But of all guys online I thought you might point me in the right direction.

I edit some dcp profiles in adobe DNG profile editor. Mainly to desaturate the colors near neutral, and to match my D700 to my D4, but still keeping the Adobe standard look, since this is what Mastin Labs presets use.

I am mainly a portrait and wedding photographer, and I love the "Light and airy" look, not the moody dull like most do.

However, I would like to edit my profile, or create a new one, where the brighter a color is the more desaturated it becomes.... Adobe DNG profile editor does not do this from what I have checked. Or is this not even possible?

Kind Regards,
Marcus

you can dump the content of dcp profile including LUTs using tools like dcptool by Sandy McG. (or dcamprof by A.Torger) to xml/whatever, load LUT data to something like matlab (even excel), apply mods the way you want, save, compile back to .dcp profile ... iterate, iterate...

dng spec has a description of LUT data inside dcp profile = https://www.adobe.com/content/dam/acom/en/products/photoshop/pdfs/dng_spec_1.4.0.0.pdf

granted it might be easier to simply create the profile from scratch using a free dcamprof = https://www.ludd.ltu.se/~torger/dcamprof.html (or paid LrPD = lumariver.com/lrpd-manual/ )
