Title: 10x8 longer portrait lenses
Post by: FL at CC on January 21, 2018, 06:49:10 pm
Hey guys! Just wanting some advice and perspective on some solid 10x8 portrait lenses and opinions. I've struggled along getting solid results with my Nikkor-W 300mm 5.6 for some months now at closer distances (1:2 ish magnification). Silly to expect premium results so close I know... I've been thinking to take the plunge and go for something longer - namely the 450-480 range for further distance between lens and subject. I'll be doing much of this sort of thing with my floor packs and the like so brute force power for any DOF is open ended. I've got an opportunity to get an Apo-Ronar 480 f9 for a great price as an example.

Thanks everyone!

I would go with something like a 14 or 16 inch lens, preferably pre-war (i.e. before 1940.)  I suggest a Velostigmat--very pleasant rendering from those!  If you want to spend more, get a Heliar.  Gorgeous portrait lens.
