Title: Drying time color changes for glossy paper on a 9800.

I ran a test with the 60 colored patches on a 4x4x4 RGB grid and the 16 neutrals with a step of 17. These were measured on an iSiS every 3 minutes for the first hour then every 8 hours for the next 4 days.

The changes from the terminal value were plotted for L*, a*, b* as well as dE00 for both the first hour and the 100 hours of drying.

There are two phases to drying. The first one is where the water in the ink evaporates to where the glycol/water are in equilibrium. This occurs fairly rapidly depending on how much water was in the inked patches but reaches a plateau within 30 minutes. At this point the dE00 of all colors is within 0.5 of the final values. The second phase is a longer term phase where the small amount of glycol evaporates and/or is adsorbed into the paper This plateaus after about 12 hours where the dE00 of all colors and neutrals converges to within 0.2 of the terminal values.

The attached graphs show the variations over time. The line colors represent the RGB of the patch colors. There are two graph sets. One for the colored patches and one for the neutrals.

Useful. Telling me that it's pretty safe to evaluate photos and measure targets after about 12 hours dry-down. This conforms with other recommendations and accepted good practice.
