Title: LR CC Cloud vs my LR Classic CC
Post by: Onslow on December 25, 2017, 11:18:23 pm
I use LR Classic to store all of my raws, approximately 50,000 raws and masters. I prefer to use the Classic for my raws.
However, I do have tablets and phones that I use. I also have backups from older phones no longer used. I have been thinking that if I could keep the new Cloud version for my jpgs and videos from my mobiles it would be a reasonable solution. However, After downloading and installing, it has picked up some of my Classic folders as well as some of my collections in my classic versions. I don't want the Cloud version to see any of my raws. I want them separate.
How do I do this? I can deleted folders but that seems to leave the image behind which is NOT what I want. I don't want to be able to accidentally screw images up between the versions. I've looked online but can't see how this is done.
Can they be run separately?

There's not much point using both Lightroom "Classic" and the new LRCC on the same computer. If you are happily using LR Classic, LRCC's has pretty limited use - eg if your second computer is a laptop, maybe you can treat LRCC as if it's Lightroom Mobile but running on the laptop.

But you really can't use the two LR versions to separate raw files from files you want on your phones and tablets. You have one account with Adobe and all of your LR apps can access whatever has been synced. Also remember that when you sync raws from LR Classic, it's not the raw file itself that goes to Adobe's cloud - it's a smart preview.

I can certainly see how you might be misled or confused by the marketing though.

Ah, damn. I had been thinking the same thing John. I thought it was my lack of understanding of the new Cloud version and how it works.
I do have LR Mobile on my tablet for work purposes. I wanted the files already in the cloud for the synch between my Classic and Mobile ile version to NOT be available to the new Cloud CC.
I wanted to have a completely separate set in the cloud just to pick up the jpgs etc generated by the phones, tablets etc.
It would have been useful but now it seems it's not possible.
Thanks for your reply John.
