Enjoy; my second-favourite Pirelli photographer after Sarah Moon.
Vast catalogue of good work; seems not as well known outwith France, perhaps.

Impressive body of work. I especially like those zebras.
Thanks,

The trouble with zebras is this:

Ain't nuttin' noo.
I rather like to think of Giacobetti in tems of his take on women at the beach. What he did that was new was to take it away from the LA beaches and boudoirs, the set-in-stone paradigm of swimsuits and silly poses, and then shatter that for ever for '70 and '71 by cross-fertilising it all with fashion. It's what made his Pirellis so new at the time. Boy, did it catch on!
Before that, the genre was really pretty lost, not knowing what the hell it was really trying to do or where to go; in essence, it had no direction and was stale as old biscuits. Peter Gowland brought it to what I think was its greatest climax (of the 50s/60s school) but it was tired, looked so commercially polished, and had to go elsewhere to remain relevant.
I also like his take on portraits - rather European, to say the least!
;-)

That beach work is very different...very dark, very stylized, and nothing like what I am used to seeing with modern Lifestyle type photography. He has lots of interesting images across multiple genres...nice commercial product shots too.
If this is your only your second favourite Pirelli photographer, I need to look up Sarah Moon.
I didn't get into photography until the 90s, and until the last decade it was almost all nature stuff. Now I am mostly focused on people, but I don't have much historical context and there are clearly some very interesting ideas to be found.
Thanks for the enlightenment!

Hi Richard,
I just wish I knew a way to transfer my photographer Favourites list straight across to LuLa!
Below, the huge link is one site - as are all the oversized links.:

Rob, again, thank you for these links.
If it wasn't for your now closed "links to photographers" thread I would have not known about some of the photographers that are your favourites. I am one up though as I knew of Haskins ( and Giacobetti) via my friend Harry before the thread :)

Even better: Harry had the books! Have you heard from him of late?
I bought the new version of Cowboy, and Walter, in Oz, sent me his copy of Five Girls, which was very kind indeed of him.
I didn't know "links to photographers" had been closed - I just couldn't find it anymore. Why would anyone want to close it? Must be something I once said!
Certainly, if I can discover it again, it would be much more convenient that doing the same job by posting here and there...
