A capture verification with two math questions, including the square root of 81. Please change this. This has got to be the dumbest thing I've ever seen.
-
What's the problem?
Square root of 81 equals 9.

Seems like a good non-sentient-beings filter to me.

Get past being a newbie and it will magically disappear. ;D

If you click "Request another image" enough times, maybe it will ask for the square root of 1. Is that better?
(Hint: the answer is 1.)

i get the feeling the users are as annoying as the forum here. :-\

Oh, an entire universe more annoying. ::)
YMMV

Exactly how is it dumb? Very simple challenges to prove you're not a bot. You could even Google the answer if you needed to.

Good idea but what's the Google? I'm sorry, but this is the dumbest question I've ever written ;D

Hah! :-)

Does it accept -9 as a valid answer?

It should.
But of course it should NOT accept -9*i, where i is the square root of minus one.) ;)

Some of you guys are really weird.

Of course we are. Some of us are mathematicians, and some are even photographers. What could be weirder? :D

But of course, that's my point, Eric: mathematics is totally logical, or at least that's what my wife used to tell me and she was never proven wrong; photography, on the other hand, is nonsense.
To imagine that anyone would waste take the time to make a photographic record of something that would exist regardless of said record being made, is an absurdity that, by definiton, flies in the face of logic. Not until the profit factor is introduced does it make the slightest sense to expend time, money and nervous tension in doing anything as unremarkable.
You can sense my consternation and surprise.

Oh, compared to quantum physics, photography is very straightforward.
If you put a conceptual artist in a box with a machine that will break a vial of cyanide if triggered by a random radioactive decay, then arrange a camera to automatically take a photo after the door of the box is opened, then the artist is both partly alive and partly dead until someone looks at the photo.

I love it, Graham! ;D

That's what I mean!
For many "conceptual" artists, that's a kindness only an audience will appreciate.

Schrodinger's photographer. :o :o

It's not "math", it's arithmetic. Very simple arithmetic, at that. Goes together with Reading and Writing, so it seems quite appropriate.

Arithmetic is not math???

1+1=2 and knowing the 11x table is arithmatic
Let x=1 and y=1 then evaluate x+y is maths - I think, and I have a degree in hard sums :-\

And to think that for years I'd taken that to be simple algebra!

Arithmetic and Algebra are (tiny) branches of Mathematics.

Relationships are like maths: have you ever thought about your X and wondered Y?

So, you are colluding with Russians? Spreading fake news, that is.

Colliding with them? ;-)

How can it be that these young ladies become more intelligent every year? Was a time I thought they were all stupid.

you probably shouldn't show this video to your students as it is a spoof video and when they prove it to you, guess who has the egg on their face?
