It appears that Sony is about to make a major announcement.

Yup, my bet is on the A9R, to cater for all the GM lenses. Or perhaps a sports prime telephoto? Or both?
Or maybe just a simple FE 35 f2 lens, he, he.

Just an update to the RX10 line, natural update, with faster AF.
Looks like SonyAlphaRumours site was a bit misslead this time by its sources.

Yes, with Apple announcement, today it is not the best to announce anything if you want the news not to be cover up by Apples news in not pure photography blogs and social media.
So, I suppose that we have to go back to previous rumors, Sony A7 III around November and maybe some extra lens. As commented in other threads, A9r/A7r III or A7s III/A9s it is not expected until next year... (A7r II is still selling well for Sony...). Of course, I will more careful next time to read a rumor site saying something it is going to be "game changer", that will be more marketing people talking more than reality.
What it is more interesting for the presentation, for me, were the two previous announcements:
- Sony increasing sales of Full Frame cameras with respect previous year.
- Looks like they are putting effort to be seen in good eyes by Pro Sport and Events photographers, putting tech support in events like the US Open... even though very few Pros would have used Sony equipment there...

I'm at the Sony event and it was as mentioned the rx10iv and the rx0. The RX10iv looks pretty cool for those that want an all in one performance camera. I'll be shooting with it all afternoon. Will come back with impressions here soon. The rx0 looks like it wants to compete with GoPro. Feature rich little camera that feels like a miniature RX100iv. If I like the rx10iv I'd purchase it for my wife to use. It looks to be a perfect camera for a one lens one camera outfit. More later.

I'm tempted to send my RX10iii in to Sony and ask them to install a button on it labeled "Game changer." :D

Every Sony announcement uses the phrase "game changer" - I think it's their translation of the Japanese word atarashi :D

Seems like a worthy upgrade. I had the RX10, great lens but too slow. Now they have managed to combine the great lens, sensor IQ, and fast operation and AF.
The fixed lens camera market is shrinking fast, so the remaining cameras need something to differentiate them from the smartphone offerings. The RX line of cameras (1, 10, 100) can certainly do that.

Well the price of the latest RX10 is certainly keeping pace with the latest iPhone. $1700 is just a bit out of the price range of most consumers when rebels sell for $500.

But rebels with a lens of the same angle of view range don't exist. It takes at least two lenses to do that and a cost of about $3K (using third party glass) ;) Yes I know, apples and oranges but you started it :D ;)

I bought the first RX10 a couple of years ago and fell in love with it. Not long ago I upgraded to the RX10 iii, and the additional reach (to 600mm vs. 200mm, FF equiv) is very nice. Some new features of the iv are quite tempting, but I think I'll continue to skip the even numbered versions.

Please tell me how many entry level consumers need a 24-600mm lens. The reason I brought up the $500 rebel is because the entry level consumer is very cost sensative and a $1700 camera that does not even allow lens changes is really outside the bounds of most consumers entering the market.
How good is that 1" sensor in dim light where most wildlife images are taken?
I'm heading to Tanzania for some documentary work and will have about a week for safari type of photography and this being a once in a lifetime opportunity, I'm picking up a D500 with the 200-500 lens. No way would I chance my trip on the all-in-one setup.

The RX10 isn't an entry-level camera. It's for more serious 'togs who want a do-it-all-in-one gizmo for general use. It likely doesn't (in most cases) replace an interchangeable lens system. It just adds another option.

This looks promising for occasional wildlife shooting in good light. I wonder if the initialisation time and the performance for zooming in rapidly from 24mm to 600mm (FF equivalent) have been improved as well. There are no reports that mention these facts, so it is unlikely.
These two aspects made the RX10 camera almost useless for quick shots (tested on the Mark II at the time) so I ended up purchasing a Canon G3X two years ago, but would now like to have better autofocus performance and more than one FPS when shooting RAW...
Well, I will probably have to wait for the MkV model... at $2200 or so. ;D
