It's humorous the way the bench, at first glance, looks so inviting, but upon second glance it's not.
-
When I first saw it, I was tempted to sit a while. Then I got closer...

Wikipedia says "In traditional Japanese aesthetics, Wabi-sabi is a world view centered on the acceptance of transience and imperfection."
I think 'Wabi Sabi' aptly describes both Russ and me.

I lichen this bench to sitting on a moss covered rock. Don't you think, Eric? In October, I will see a lot of this on the rocks of the riverbed of Oxtongue River near Algonquin Park.

I'd love to be with you in Algonquin in October, John.

That would be nice to go out with other like-minded photographers and explore the landscape.
One for the road. To the right is where all the lichen resides. In small caverns and crevices and everywhere in between. You can see some orange lichen on bottom left rock and some green lichen about one third up from bottom right.

Okay. Is this the lichen-encrusted bench thread? If so, here's another one.

That is an excellent companion to my bench. Probably even more lichen.

I could not find a bench with lichen. But I did find this composite from a workshop. The instructor told us to find something with texture. Then we took flowers. The idea was to blend them and create a textured image. I took one of lichen on a tombstone and combined with flower. Didn't like the sandwich look, so I layered and created this one. Do you lichen it? Terrible, I know. And two more with lichen.
I read somewhere these are studied quite a bit and are believed to be among the first forms of life on earth.
