Title: How to close one two LR catalogue

My computer went down and I had to reformat it and the backup of LR catalog was made on the external HDD where other catalog is residing. When I tried to open backup catalog the LR says

The Lightroom cat " so and so" cannot be open because another application already has it opened. Quit the other copy of Lightroom before trying to launch.

Please advise what to do.

If you look at the folder that contains the catalog, you will find a file named  "catalog name".lrcat. That is your catalog file. You will also find a file named "catalog name".lrcat.lock.  This second file  stops LR from opening the catalog.

Just delete or rename the .lock file and you should be able to open your catalog.
