Title: Lightroom 6 Installation Problems -Adobe Thinks my Windows 7 is Vista
Post by: Robert Boire on August 09, 2017, 10:32:29 am
Help!

LR 6 stopped working for me and so I am obliged to reinstall.

After removing LR6, logging in to CC and providing the license key, the installer tells me that LR6 is not compatible with Vista and I cannot proceed. The problem is that I am not running Vista but Windows 7.

Does anybody have any ideas of a work around?

Thanks

This is a complete shot-in-the-dark, but internally all releases of Windows have version numbers of "NT N.N," where the two Ns represent a major version number and a minor version number.  Windows Vista was NT 6.0.  Windows 7 was NT 6.1.  Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 were NT 6.2 and 6.3, respectively.  Finally, with the release of Windows 10, Microsoft bumped the major version number up to 10, to match the marketing name.

My conjecture is that the installer is only checking the major version number.  As I say, it's just a guess, but if I'm correct it's an installer bug and you're probably going to need assistance from Adobe customer support to find a workaround.

Change the setup file compatibility mode to Windows 7 and run the setup file and check.

Right click on Installer file and select properties option.
Then click on Compatibility tab .
Set the OS to Windows 7 and check.

Rikk, I do appreciate your role in all this, and I'm sure you don't mind getting paid for doing the job, but while it's a useful hack (courtesy Microsoft), shouldn't Adobe release a better installer? No need to answer, it's a rhetorical question.

Cheers,
Bart

The installer works for the vast majority of users. If the Windows User's account is misreporting the OS version - for whatever reason - I am uncertain you can blame the installer.

The goal is to get the user working. The correct answer might be to reinstall Windows 7 but this is far more benign...

I had the same thing happen to me. Try installing as a trial and then upgrade to your key once it installs.

I have a related question.
I'm currently running Lightroom version: 5.7 [991162] on Windows 10 but when I click on HELP > SYSTEM INFO Lightroom says I am running:

8.1 Home Premium Edition
Version: 6.3 [9600]
Application architecture: x64
System architecture: x64

I know this to be untrue....Should this concern me?
