Title: crashing I1 profiler
Post by: Robert-Peter Westphal on July 21, 2017, 05:22:13 pm
Perhaps anyone can help me solving a problem :

I use X-rite I1 profiler, version 1.7.1 to calibrate the screen of my macbook pro ( late 2013 retina). Since some time I1 profiler crashes at the first attempt to start it, at the second attempt after the crash it starts as usual. I tried removing the software and all configuration files located at library, and reinstalled profiler, but it doesn't help. The problem only occurs when the I1 Display pro device is connected by USB, without the device connected, profiler starts right from the beginning.
The I1 display pro is reported properly each time I insert the plug into the macbook. After a safe-boot and reboot, profiler starts one time exactly as it should, but during the calibration process it lost the connection to the device and profiler hang. After reboot, the behavior again was the same as described above.

The current OS is 10.12.6, but the same issue appeared suddenly with 10.12.5, although it was running ok for the first time.

Does anyone have an idea how to solve this issue ?

Do other USB devices have issues with the USB port ? Have a different port to try ?
Otherwise it sounds like a cable connection or an internal issue with the device.

Thank you for your answer !

The device works great with my wife's Windows 10 notebook. I've tested several USB-jacks wit the same result.
What is strange that in case I first start profile and then plug the device into the jack, it works great. I assume that the XRD has problems with OSx 10.12.XX 😩

Hurra, the X-rite support could solve my problem !
They handed me a script to remove all components of I1 profiler and XRD from my mac, and after a reboot, I could reinstall the latest version and the problem was soved.

I ran into the same problem on my 2018 MacBook Pro. Uninstalling and re-installing following instructions from X-Rite did not solve the problem. Not the first time you spend $250 on a piece of hardware from X-Rite and then spend days figuring out how to get the software working.
