Title: The Making of a Fine Art Photograph By Pete Myers, 2005
Post by: Stoic on June 18, 2017, 08:24:30 am
Hello, I hope I've put this in the correct section. I'm working at furthering my printing skills and came across 'Long Road Down' by Pete Myers, from 2005. The article I found was Printing Insights 39, and I then discovered Pete wrote a LuLa article on the making of the image. A fascinating article not least because of the brief unanticipated glimpse into recent history in the introduction.

Unfortunately the images are no longer showing, in my browser at least, would it be possible to dive deep into the Lula archives and restore the links.

Many thanks, greatly appreciated, Stoic.

We'll fix this article in the next 48 hours.  Some older articles when they were converted didn't retain the index to images.  We have tried to catch all of them but with 5500 articles in the system, we don't get them all.  Thanks for pointing it out.  Look here for a notice when it is fixed.

The image should be there now.  Thanks for letting us know.  Enjoy the article.

It would be interesting to know what Pete is doing now.

As I recall, he is/was (?) an avid Leica rangefinder fan with a love for black/white imagery and the 'old West' ethic, perhaps more in the sense of Russ' "hand of man" on the landscape of yesterday, than in the sense of Wyatt Earp...

If there are any unfulfilled professional dreams (I could list zillions!) one is this: I researched Old Tucson for a calendar project, along with the set up in the mountains above Almeria in Spain, beloved by spaghetti western Italian director Sergio Leone. Sadly, we ended up doing yet another beach number. Beach is also good, but just too interchangeable. And each one becomes a greater challenge to be different to everything you've done before. Not easy when you don't have that much in the way of distraction such as fashions; that three-breasted girl in the 1990's Total Recall may have helped. To be different, I mean.

It would be good to see another Pete Myers episode on LuLa.
