I have a need to shoot high speed 5-frame brackets. I've discovered through accident and research that my camera, a Panasonic G7, takes the fastest bracket set by using the electronic shutter and the widest opening of the lens in use. Configured in this manner the camera shoots a five-frame bracket in 0.40 seconds. (Assuming all exposures are short - doesn't work with half second exposures!)
I've been able to demonstrate that the stopping down and opening up of the aperture diaphragm is the controlling factor. Using the widest aperture or using an old manual lens with no aperture control, gives the same time result - 0.40 seconds. At f5.6 with a Panasonic lens the time is 0.694 seconds and at f11 the time is 0.826 seconds. (Times vary with different lenses but the general behavior is consistent across all lenses.)
The time of 0.40 seconds is acceptable but I'd like to be able to use apertures other than wide open. Does anyone know if there is a setting in the camera that will mimic a manual lens and keep the diaphragm stopped down at all times? I though constant preview might help in this regard but it made no difference. I could not find anything in the user's guide discussing a function like this.
