Title: How to create textures from photos for blending?

I recently took a bunch of photos of grasses that a I thought could be good textures to be used for blending.
Can the members direct me to any tutorials that show how to do this?  Do the photos need any processing to make them useful as textures?

I intend to use them in Topaz Texture Effects 2
