Title: Mid telephoto prime lenses for Sony FE mount
Post by: BobDavid on May 02, 2017, 06:43:05 pm
The options for prime telephoto lenses between 100mm to 150mm  are nonexistent with the exception of the new $$$$ 135mm Batis. Am I missing something?

Correct although most Canon and Sigma lenses can be adapted with the Sigma MC-11 adapter and retain full functionality.  Many use the Metabones adapter and it too works well with many lenses but also does limit some AF mode choices for some lenses.

I am using a legacy lens, the Contax/Zeiss 100mm 3.5 Sonnar with a Novoflex adapter on my a6300 and it's very nice combination. The lens balances well, it's easy to focus and the images are what you would expect from Zeiss: razor sharp, nice colours and good micro contrast.

Yes. There is at least one Samyang 135 f2 FE lens, albeit MF. Plus the recent Sony 100 STF. Plus the several lenses from Sony and Minolta with AF that can be adapted from A mount to E mount, including the famous 135 STF and 135 f1.8.

Even if there is nothing in the rumors sites, I will be surprised if this year or beginning of next one Sony does not release a 135 prime for the system... they are always saying that the system is very successful for studio photographers or portrait photographers, and that it is a desired lens for them...

But, if it is a GM lens... expect it to be in the same price range as the Batis...

Yep, it's a good 'un. Mostly flies under the Y/C mount radar too.

I expect it to be more, if it is a remake of their 135 f1.8 for A-mount.

Anyway, for portraits and studio, they already have it covered with 85 GM and 100 STF?

Sure, they are covered... but the 135 is so typical prime for that, I'm quite sure they are going to release it...

And looks like I was wrong about the rumors http://www.sonyalpharumors.com/sr3-new-source-says-16-35mm-gm-announced-within-one-month-135mm-fe-also-coming-soon/

And not forgetting the excellent Sony FE 90mm Macro, I know its "only" f2.8 but it really is a gem of a lens, a bit big and a bit heavy but the IQ is excellent when used as a telephoto lens or a macro lens.
