Title: Any Alerts over upgrading to Mac 10.12.3 from 10.11.6
Post by: pflower on February 28, 2017, 04:26:00 am
My consistent practice is not to upgrade operating systems unless it becomes necessary - i.e. because programs I use require the upgrade. I have been using Macs for well over 30 years now and have very little need for the bells and whistles in the operating system other than to reliably open and run programs, print etc.  It may be that I overly cautious but over the years I have found myself with all kinds of problems with upgrades.

However recently the Finder on my iMac 5k running 10.11.6 keeps hanging requiring a restart.  Googling this problem it seems I am not alone and there is no simple solution.  So I thought I would bite the bullet and think about upgrading to Sierra to see if that helped.  I have a pretty modest number of programs I rely upon - LR - CC, a little bit of Photoshop CC, FCPX and the usual word processing, mail programs and a lot of web searching/browsing through Safari (which I still prefer) or Chrome.

Critical is printing from LR to an Epson 3880 with a range of presets and profiles which work fine with 10.11.6.

Anyone got any thoughts on whether it is safe to go down this route?

I've had no problems upgrading to Sierra 10.12.3 from El Capitan 10.11.6.  Printing on my Epson SC P800 is unchanged and PS and Lr work as expected with the plugins and presets.  If you've kept your PS and Lr apps up to date with CC I don't think you'll have any problems.

I have been facing a very annoying issue with the inability of my Mac pro 2013 to recognize SD/CF cards throuhg my Lexar USB 3.0 card reader.

The issue started after applying an unidentified update of OSX 10.11 and is still present in OSX 10.12.

This is a total show stopper for my workflow without solution identified yet...

Cheers,
Bernard

No problems at all with my Lexar USB 3.0 card reader - in either 10.11 or 10.12. I do have it plugged directly into my 2013 MacPro rather than a hub, but I assume you would have already tested that?

Yep, it is plug-in directly, it could be a hardware issue with the Mac, but other USB devices are fine.

you may try to install a clean 12.3 system on a separate harddisk and see if that works.

I always start of from clean in case of any problem to see it is software related.
