Title: Crane Silver Rag w/Epson 4000
Post by: paulbk on July 27, 2006, 05:17:35 pm
Anyone print Crane Silver Rag [color prints] w/Epson 4000 using Crane factory profile, what settings?

Photoshop CS2:
Intent = Relative or Perceptual?
Black Point Compensation = yes or no?

Printer Driver:
Paper = Epson Premium Semigloss or Photo Luster?
DPI = 1400 or 2800

Looking for first hand experisnce. Please don't send me to their instructions pdf, they are bad. Crane's instructions have you print from the Photoshop Proof, I don't want to do that.

I would strongly recommend a custom profile. With one for my 9800 I have a 30% gamut increase over the canned profile. I use Relative Colorimetric rendering and the Premium SemiGloss setting for the printer.
From memory the Crane profile uses Perceptual and PSG.Black point on. 1440 is fine with this paper

Thanks Brian,
I'm sure you are right, a custom profile is the way to go with Silver Rag. I've had such good results with the 'new' Hahn Photo Rag factory profiles, I was hoping the Crane profiles would be as good. They clearly are not.

I've been getting cheap custom profiles (small .icc files) from Inkjetart, to try out the new papers.  I'm not very impressed by any of them, but will get a better Andrew Rodney profile if/when I pick a surface.
