Title: Lumix FZ-1000 and burst mode

My wife is becoming a pretty good bird photographer with her FZ-1000. She is most interested in "birds in action" and uses the burst shooting mode a lot. I have convinced her of the value of RAW files, so she has been shooting RAW + JPEG. But, in this mode the camera shoots 3 photos and then pauses, sort of removing the benefit of burst mode. If she shoots JPEG only it can shoot dozens without pausing.

Is this a limitation of the camera itself? Would buying a faster SD card make a difference? Her current card says "633x; 95 MB/Sec".

Probably a limitation of the camera rather than the card. You should find the answer in the spec for the body as there is usually an upper limit to the burst-mode listed.

PC Magazine report 11.8 frames per second. But I'd be willing to bet that's jpeg only and a small size (jpeg) at that.

While losing the raw she should try the 4K photo mode. If the birds are not moving fast there is a lot that can be gained from it.

I suspect it's a caching thing.  I tried it per your spec ... R&J, on full burst, and I got 10 or 11 frames in apx 2 sec.  That's enough for many situations.  But if I didn't wait for those RAWS to save to the card, I'd get 3 frames.  By wait, I mean apx 15 seconds.  Only then i get another 11 frames in rapid fire.
