Title: Any benefit for moving from ColorMunki to i1Pro2
Post by: Cincinnati on February 06, 2017, 12:49:00 pm
I currently own a ColorMunki. Use it mostly for display calibration of my iMac. I  use professionally created paper profiles for my 3880.  Because the iMac is not an Eizo, I'm uncertain if a more advanced device like the i1 Pro 2 would be of much benefit in calibrating the monitor.

But now that I'm beginning to print a little more on a 3 year old 3880, I'm beginning to wonder if printer "drift" will come more into play.

Those of you creating custom paper profiles for your printer, how often do our need to re-profile?

Any of you who upgraded from a ColorMunki to an i1 Pro, what difference if any did you notice in your prints when using a profile generated by the i1 Pro over one generated by the ColorMunki?

The main advantage of using an i1 for printer profiling is the mechanical convenience (it's far easier to do a scan), and the ease with which more test patches can be put on a page. In terms of color accuracy, it really depends how critical you want to be, or whether you are wanting to compare to measurements made by others, since the ColorMonkey has respectable accuracy and in some ways is even superior to the i1pro in terms of repeatability due to the use of an LED illuminant. The i1pro is certainly better in some other aspects, being more robust in terms of paper texture due to it illuminating from all directions, and having the ability to deal with FWA/OBE issues.
