A nice photo.

(But I'll admit: I was tempted to respond to your title with something like: "Yes, it is. A rock."   ;) )

Where did you take this? Iceland? Wonderful layers of landscapes in one place and image. As nice as it is, there is something disconcerting about the arrangement of the elements. I look at the wonderful layering and think it would be better without the rock and have wonderful flow of movement from bottom to top-- grass, light water area, red rock, green sea, mountain with white caps, clouds, sky. I think it because the rock is proportionally small and makes itself a focal point, where the image exudes an overall feel of layers. I cropped out the right side and positioned the rock in the centre to minimize its impact and give an alternate balance so the eye can flow.

Just an alternate view, It is a nice image.

Reminds me of the title of Guy Tal's book -- More Than A Rock.

Slobodan, it's Cornish and thank you for making me aware of him. He has some lovely stuff on his site and I'll take the comparison as a compliment!

John, that's an interesting approach. I took it in northern Scotland, on New Year's Day: it's Gruinard Bay, from Mellon Udrigle. Friends have bought a cottage there and I suspect I'll be going back.

Cornish, of course! I took a workshop with him in KCornwall in the late 90s.

This is his image that I had in mind: http://www.joecornishgallery.co.uk/greetings-cards-c75/cuillin-from-elgol-p1007
