Title: Making Custom paper profiles on Epson 9800
Post by: adion on June 29, 2006, 04:11:01 pm
OK, we just bought an epson 9800 printer with Colorburst Pro Lauout series version 7.5 RIP. Also we have the gretag Eye-One Proof  kit. The only thing is that I don't really know were to begin to make the custom paper profile for the RIP. Can anybody help me? Do you have a step by step tutorial?

Thanks!

If you got the rip with the printer you will only be able to use Epson Profiles or till you upgrade the bundled rip. Once you do that you will be able to use 3rd party profiles

It is not the RIP that is bundled with the printer. We bought it separately. Right now, we are using the Epson profiles, they do an ok job but not as good as custom profiles would.

Doesn't the Colorburst manual have instructions for this? I haven't profiled for Colorburst but ImagePrint and Onyx both have the proper procedures outlined in their manuals.

Well, here is what is inside the manual:

Only X-Rite devices are supported for creating ICC profiles in SpectralVision Pro. Both X-Rite and Gretag spectrophotometers can be used for linearization.

I have an Eye-One device so I can't profile with the software prodided with Colorburst.

So ok Can I just use the Eye-one match software to print a target, mesure it inside Eye-One Match 3 software and then create ann ICC profile, then load it into coloburst to create a new enviroment?

This is where i get a little confused...

I would think so, but perhaps someone like Andrew can provide the definitive answer.

You'd probably have to use ColorPort from X-Rite since I suspect the RIP software expects a target formatted for the X-Rite profiler software. But ColorPort (free) will drive the EyeOne Spectrophotometer.

Does Colorburst not accept standard ICC profiles, that they've got to be created within the RIP?

It should (at least the full version I have). It wants CMYK profiles. This special OEM version, I'm not sure what they've done differently.

Of course you have to output the targets from the RIP before you measure it.
